Heaps of Melbourne Cup fun on board! The ladies turned out in style and all enjoyed a spectacular day on the river.

July 17 2009. 93 passengers enjoyed a little touch of France on board the Kookas. We were treated to the Cancan spectacle by dancers from The Danceworks who also got some lucky fellows out of the audience to join them. Sandy Beynon performed two French favourites by Edith Piaf accompanied by George Menegon, one of Brisbane’s best-loved accordion players. Delicious French-inspired food was served by our chefs and Jennifer from Jetset Travel Spring Hill was on hand to let us know how we could arrange our next trip to France and Europe in general. All staff got in the mood and donned their red and white gingham scarves for the occasion.

Tuesday 20 June
Kookaburra River Queen 1 moored at Riverlife Adventure Centre for this official launch of Brisbane’s newest tourism venture. The five participating attractions – Riverlife, Story Bridge Walk, XXXX Alehouse, Lone Pine Sanctuary and Kookaburra River Queens – got together to celebrate the partnership and the beginning of better exposure for all attractions through the purchase of a $145 ticket which includes entry to each of the attractions. Minister for Tourism, Mr David Taylor, attended to officially launch, together with Brisbane Marketing Leisure Tourism Director, Cathie McBean. Our mascot, Kooka, was on board to greet guests and generally schmooze and have a great time with everyone – including some slippery and cuddly characters from Lone Pine.

June 13
To celebrate the culmination of Queensland Week, a fun occasion was held on board the Kookas. Complete with kitch tablecloths featuring pineapples and coconuts, bunches of bananas hanging from the light-fittings, and centrepieces of pineapples and oranges replete with hors d’oeuvres stuck into them, a delicious feast of Queensland produce was enjoyed by guests. Clovelly Estate and Jimbour Estate Wineries were on board to allow guests to taste the best of their produce. A round of Queensland Trivia sorted out the smarts from the rest, and a slide-show of historic Queensland images was on display for all to enjoy.

Monday 20 July
25 special guests enjoyed the morning ambience on the foredeck of River Queen 1. Bathed in glorious sunlight against the backdrop of the Story Bridge, guests enjoyed refreshments and the official launch of the partnership of Kookaburra River Queens with SIDS & Kids Queensland with to assist with the latter’s fund-raising activities. A range of events are being hosted on board the River Queens throughout the year, $5 from each ticket sold being donated to the charity which carries on vital work counselling and assisting Queenslanders recently bereaved through the sudden loss of a child or pregnancy.

Brisbane's wackiest families turned out for this fun evening. The kids had a great time wrapping each other in the mummy-wrap competition; the limbo was enjoyed by young and old; and some of the costumes were absolutely fantastic. We had craft for the kids, a treasure hunt, and the Monsterhouse movie showing, as well as glowing jack-o-lanterns everywhere. A great night of spooky fun!

What a great night it was! A fantastic atmosphere made even better by the Abba Gold group of friends. Thanks for supporting the Royal Brisbane & Women's Hospital and for coming on board to enjoy one of our regular themed cruises.

Did you miss out on our great Sex and the City Cruise? Over 300 ladies were on board to enjoy a night of fun - trivia, cocktails, fashion parades, hunky waiters, canapes - and an evening enjoying each other's company.

A great night was had by all who attended this fun event.
